Description:


The company Acer Laboratories Incorporated (ALI) is an Acer subsidiary. It designs and produces integrated circuits, used in assembling personal computers or embedded systems.

The founders of the company are Chin Wu, SJ Lee and Ronald Chwang. The three were invited by then Acer CEO Stan Shih to create a company within the Acer group, which would focus on designing integrated circuits.

By 1992, the company was ranked third in a list of the world' computer chipset providers by DATAQUEST.

ALI won several awards in 1994 and 1995 from the Science-Based Industrial Park in Taiwan. The first was the Innovative Product Award. In the following year, the awards won included those for financial growth and research and development.

The Genie chipset won the award for innovative products. It placed fourth on the IC Design and Production Capability Award. The Ministry of Economic Affairs also awarded the company with the Research and Development Award in December 1995.

ALI expanded to in 1996 to reach foreign markets. It created the Acer Laboratories Inc. USA. Ali was awarded the ISO 9001 certification in 1998 from IECQ.

In May 2000, it bought 70% of the shares of T-Square Technology Inc.

The China subsidiary ALI Corporation was opened in Shanghai in July 2000. This was also the same time when the company's headquarters were moved to the NSA building in Taipei.

The company name was officially changed to ALI Corporation in May 2002.

ALI created a number of spin-off companies. The ALinx Technology Corporation started in October 2002 and the ULi Electronics Inc. started in 2003. Both were created as subsidiaries wholly owned by ALi.

NVIDIA bought ULi in 2006 for a sum of 52 million US dollars.

ALI adopted the Ocean Blue MHEG-5 software for its devices in December 2006. Microsoft accredited the company's PC-Cam Solution in Jan. 2007. It is now marked with the Vista Premium Logo Certification.

The headquarters is located in Taipei, Taiwan. There are 528 people employed in the company and its other subsidiaries. The sales revenue reported for 2006 was 3.26 million New Taiwanese dollars.

It is a publicly traded company. Its stocks are traded in the Taiwan Stock Exchange under the symbol 3041. The president is Teddy Lu while the chairman of the board is Cheng-Yaw Sun.

The current products are PC chipsets, video controllers, and computer peripherals and embedded systems.
